No matter what holiday you celebrate this winter gifts are always hard to buy. I know in our house we have so many toys around that the thought of a whole holiday of MORE TOYS sends me into a panic. This year my goal, and not so subtle hint to my children's family, is our home could use less toys and more gifts that help my kids blossom as the smart, creative and adventurous little creatures they are.
Books are my favorite thing to gift to people. Unlike a toy or other material item books help open peoples minds and create new ideas. Now that is a priceless gift. This blog created the most magical list of books that would be wonderful for any family.
Outdoor Adventure Gear!
Once they get inspired to go outside and explore they are going to need some gear! Always make sure to dress children well so that they don't have the horrible experience of being cold and wet and then refuse to go outside to explore again. A good pair of long underwear makes all of the difference when outside in winter weather. Wool or silk is best for breathability and warmth. Good boots for both cold and wet weather, rain gear that is actually waterproof and not just water resistant, gloves and hats also are high on the list.
Seasons Passes to Parks
This year the New York State Empire Passport is definitely on my wish list. At only $65 for the whole year it pays for itself after only 9 visits to state parks. Passes to your local zoo or aquarium, nature center or museum are also fantastic options.
These are great because once a month the gift recipient gets something amazing in the mail and is reminded how much you care for them! Kiwi Crate is great because it has a bunch of different age levels. My daughter is going to be receiving the Koala Crate this year! Ivan is going to be getting a membership to the Wild Explorers Club and we are trying to get a local group going, if you are interested check out the Facebook group. Little Passports is epic, kids get to learn about different regions every month! DIY Happy Kits seems more flexible in timing and what you get. Green Kid Crafts is always a good choice, the box comes with a lot of options and choosing something green will help kids learn about the importance of treating the earth kindly.
Whatever you and or Santa brings this year remember to stop and enjoy the time you are spending with loved ones. As always stay safe and be wild.
